我倾向 as many
题目中是 as many exotic items as,为many+复数名词 many是形容词,紧跟在名词前,中间不能加定冠词.
文中是 as many of the exotic items as,为many of+the 复数名词.many 是代词,相当于many things,of+范围,表示.中的许多,所以通常这个表示范围的名词被认为是作者心中确定的部分,要加上定冠词.
as...as...的结构在句子中可以承担很多成分,所以比较不好把握,建议就是找到这个结构的中心词就是第一个as后面的成分.因为第一个as是副词 所以后面才是中心词,第二个as是介词或连词作状语,所以这个偏正结构,“正”是第一个as 后面的,也就是主干部分
因此把只保留as...as主干部分：这道题就变成了 loaded with 1) many of the items (文中所使用的）
2) many items.（题中所使用的）
所以我认为在不区分many 和many of 的情况下都可以,但我个人倾向是many 因为就是表达许多的.而不是.中的许多,尽管文中那样写,可能出题人自有打算吧.
